Crime Prevention

The Crime Prevention Unit provides numerous free services to Redding residents and businesses. We currently have over 350 Neighborhood Watch groups and over 400 members of our Business Watch Crime Alert Network.

The Crime Prevention Unit is located in the Redding Police Department Investigations Unit in the Downtown Redding Mall
and can be reached regarding any of the following programs by calling (530) 225-4209.

Neighborhood Watch

What is Neighborhood Watch?  Neighborhood Watch is a program used throughout the nation where neighbors look out for each other.  The group (usually 10 to 20 neighbors) has an initial meeting at one of the member's homes.  At this meeting a member of the Redding Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit will discuss what Neighborhood Watch is, and isn't, home security, Operation I.D., and how and when to call the police.

National Night Out is a National Event and is on the 1st Tuesday of August each year.  Each year the Redding Police Department organizes Neighborhood Watch block parties with visits from local officials, police officers, and Fire Department Personnel.  The event is designed to (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Apartment Watch

What is Apartment Watch?  Apartment Watch is a program where tenants are encouraged to get to know their neighbors and watch out for one another.  The manager of the apartment complex sets up the meeting where a member from the Redding Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit comes out and talks about the program and specific areas of concern that are brought up by the management and tenants.
